Understanding your rights in property co-ownership in Kenya

Owning a piece of real estate is a dream for many in Kenya. Among other benefits, owners of such property derive a sense of a secure future for the next generation as well as creation of wealth.
You can own property as an individual (sole ownership), or with others (co-ownership) such as with a spouse, business partner, friend or relative. Kenyan law recognizes co-ownership to be either “joint tenancy” or “tenancy in common”.
